Right Here, Right Now

What I'm wearing... black leggings and a multi-colored tunic top

What I'm reading... Second Glance by Jodi Picoult. This is our book club's latest selection. The summary from Amazon is this... "Sometimes I wonder....Can a ghost find you, if she wants to?"
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.
Enter Ross Wakeman, a suicidal drifter who has put himself in mortal danger time and again. He's driven his car off a bridge into a lake. He's been mugged in New York City and struck by lightning in a calm country field. Yet despite his best efforts, life clings to him and pulls him ever deeper into the empty existence he cannot bear since his fiancée's death in a car crash eight years ago. Ross now lives only for the moment he might once again encounter the woman he loves. But in Comtosook, the only discovery Ross can lay claim to is that of Lia Beaumont, a skittish, mysterious woman who, like Ross, is on a search for something beyond the boundary separating life and death. Thus begins Jodi Picoult's enthralling and ultimately astonishing story of love, fate, and a crime of passion.

Vermont is just a short drive from here, so this one is particularly interesting to me.

What's happening in my kitchen... We had potato salad and raw veggies and dip for dinner tonight. We have just finished up leftovers from our 4th of July party so there hasn't been a lot of cooking going on.  I made goulash one night  and our grandson is here for a visit with his mom and he loves quesidillas, so we thinly sliced some of the leftover BBQ chicken and made chicken and cheese quesadillas one night and that's about the extent of cooking last week, everything else was just warmed up!

What's outside my window... Today was a very weird day. It started out cloudy, became sunny and warm (in the 80s) and then rained... while the sun was shining!

What I'm thankful for... Our friends and family who came to our 4th of July party. We have been hosting this for thirty four years. July 4th is my mom's birthday, so the day is bittersweet. It's a fun day for us, as we get to spend the day with some people who we only see once or twice a year and they make this event a priority on their calendars.  But since my mother's passing it has also been a difficult day. I miss her ever so much and it is a great comfort to me to have the people who are most important to me with me on this day. I appreciate everyone who came to spend the day with us.

What I'm smelling... Oh, the smell of the earth after rain.  As much as I've come to dislike all the rain we have been getting this summer, I love the smell after a rainstorm.

What I'm hearing... Hubby and I are watching a show about Amelia Earhart's disappearance.  It's pretty interesting.

What I'm crafting... I just finished knitting two dishcloths and started a third.  It's a new cotton yarn called "Scrubby Yarn" and it makes the dishcloth "rough", supposedly to make it act as a scrubby. The yarn came with a crochet pattern for a dishcloth, but I couldn't find the stitches to crochet because of the make up of the yarn, so I am knitting my dishcloths using a pattern that  my mom gave me. I am contemplating making cards using some of my photography... we'll see if it gets past the "thinking about" stage!

What's  on my mind... About some sorting out that I need to do.

Words live by...

I hope you all had a great weekend.

Thanks for dropping by...
